The Ventures Lab: What’s it like to work with our VSMs?

What Does Venture Support Actually Look Like?

Building a venture is rarely a linear process.

The support founders need changes over time. Early-stage ideas need space to be explored and tested. Investment-ready ventures often need stronger commercial and operational foundations. Post-investment businesses face the challenge of scaling sustainably while protecting the purpose at the centre of the venture.

At The Ventures Lab, we work alongside founders through those different stages of growth. From early exploration through to investment readiness and post-investment scaling, our approach is designed to provide practical, hands-on support that evolves with the needs of the venture.

Every venture is different, which means support needs to be flexible, responsive and grounded in the realities of the business.

Working Alongside Founders

Our Venture Support Managers work closely with founders to help strengthen ventures over the long term.

That support can include:

  • 1:1 support shaped around the stage and priorities of the venture

  • hands-on input across business modelling, market insight, positioning and financial planning

  • support preparing for investment and growth

  • collaborative discussions to test ideas, challenge assumptions and strengthen decision-making

  • ongoing support as ventures progress through different stages of development

The focus is on understanding where a venture is now, identifying what will help move it forward and building practical support around that.

Support That Develops With the Venture

As ventures grow, the challenges naturally become more complex.

Founders may be balancing investment conversations, operational delivery, hiring, governance, financial planning and long-term strategy all at the same time. Often, what is needed is not just advice, but space to work through decisions clearly and strengthen the foundations that support sustainable growth.

Our role is to work alongside founders to help navigate those stages in a practical and structured way.

That might mean validating an early idea, strengthening investment readiness, refining systems and processes, or supporting a venture as it scales post-investment.

Impact and Commercial Performance Together

At The Ventures Lab, impact is embedded throughout the venture journey rather than treated as a separate workstream.

We support ventures to build commercially sustainable models that are capable of delivering meaningful long-term impact for people and planet.

That means helping founders develop ventures that are:

  • financially sustainable

  • operationally resilient

  • clear in their purpose

  • and positioned for long-term growth

The aim is simple.

To support founders in building ventures that work in the real world and deliver the impact they set out to create.
